Hypercardioid
This is a more aggressive version of the cardioid pattern. It is very directional and eliminates most sound from the sides and rear.
Uses: Eliminating unwanted noise and music other than the source directly in front of the mic. Hypercardiod mics also have a hotter signal and are better at picking up sound from a distance.
Notes: Singers who move around a lot are poor candidates for these mics because hypercardiod mics do not pick up well from the sides. Often when the singer moves the audience will hear the sound fading out then back in again. An added benefit of hypercardiods is that there is always a little area behind the mic that also picks up sound. In some mics it is pronounced enough that a hyper can be used to pick up two separate sources, like a figure 8 pattern Uses a pattern as shown at right side
